From interesting technology to, “How did we live without this?”

Americare Senior Living has spent more than four decades helping older adults live with greater independence, dignity and connection. Today, they’re adding another tool to that mission.

Americare calls it WellAware, powered by Amba.

Discreet sensors work quietly in the background, monitoring individual patterns in sleep, heart rate, respiration, movement and daily routines. There are no cameras, microphones or wearables and residents don’t have to do a thing. When something changes, care teams have information that can help them determine who may need attention and what might be going on.

Sometimes, a small change isn’t so small.

That’s where the Americare story gets particularly interesting. Americare Senior Executive Director, Jennifer Brewer, describes instances in which the technology helped the team identify an irregular nighttime heart rate pattern associated with AFib and nighttime oxygen changes in a resident who was subsequently identified as having COPD, despite no other signs or symptoms being apparent at the time.

It’s a glimpse at what proactive care can look like when care teams have access to information they couldn’t previously see.

Technology that lets people get on with living.

Amba doesn’t require cameras, microphones or anything residents have to remember to put on. Installation takes approximately 10 minutes per resident room, then the sensors operate automatically.

And perhaps resident Larry Carrington says it best: “Amba makes me feel safe. I like that someone is watching and my family is proud we have Amba.”
